Wedding: Laura and Daniel at Stone Quarry & Lincklaen House, Cazenovia, 9/26/15

Even after years in the DJ business, Laura and Daniel's wedding day managed to present some exciting "firsts" for me.  Although I've often DJ'ed a reception/ceremony combo, this was the first time I did them at two separate venues.  There was also an exciting "first" during the ceremony, and as well as the debut of something new for the reception that I'll be offering for future events.  Keep reading for details and photos!

I'll start with how things worked between two separate venues.  The 4:00pm ceremony took place at the Stone Quarry Hill Art Park, followed by a 6:00pm reception at the Lincklaen House, both in Cazenovia.  Knowing there wouldn't be much time between the two, I started at the Lincklaen House for a head start on the reception set-up.  After an hour there, I drove up to the art park to set-up for the ceremony.  After the ceremony ended, I packed-up and headed back to the village to finish setting-up the reception.  Although I was initially nervous about the tight schedule, all of our advance planning allowed everything to run smoothly!

The next big "first" of the day -- having the wedding procession time-out to match exactly with the processional song.  Laura and Daniel wanted Louis Armstrong's rendition of "La Vie En Rose," but it's not long enough for everyone to make it down the aisle.  Extending a song usually isn't difficult for me, but Laura wanted the song's ending to coincide with her arrival at the chuppah (wedding canopy), so it would be more tan a matter of simply making a really long version and fading it out "whenever."  But we wouldn't know exactly how much time was needed until rehearsal, the night before the wedding.  Knowing it wouldn't be wise to wait until then, I created a few versions of various lengths and shared with Laura in advance.  After rehearsal, she told me which version she wanted.  Because of all the variables involved, none of us were sure if this would actually work, so I actually wanted to applaud when Laura -- without rushing or stalling -- walked down the aisle and hit her mark precisely as the song ended!  It's always such a thrill when a plan like this materializes exactly the way it was envisioned.

There's one more big "first" for the day, but I'll get to that in a bit.  I know many of you who are planning weddings as you read this blog like to know which songs each couple chooses for the key moments of their wedding day:

  • Ceremony Processional: Louis Armstrong / La Vie En Rose
  • Ceremony Recessional: Hall and Oates / You Make My Dreams Come True
  • Wedding Party Intros: The Emotions / Best of My Love
  • First Dance: Beatles / Here, There and Everywhere
  • Newlyweds and Mothers Dance: Emmylou Harris & Don Williams / If I Needed You
  • Cake Cutting: Cake / Love You Madly
  • Last Dance of the Night for Everyone: Aretha Franklin / At Last

So here's the third big "first" for the night -- I now have uplighting!  Laura and Daniel graciously allowed me to use their reception to "debut" the uplighting and get some photos to demonstrate how nicely uplighting can enhance a reception venue.  At Laura's request, uplighting near the cake was white, and the rest of the lights were set to purple.  More details on the uplighting are coming soon, including a special offer just for couples who've already booked me prior to whatever day (coming very soon) I make the "official" announcement about the uplighting... so keep an eye on the blog for that!

Thanks again to Laura and Daniel for choosing me as your wedding DJ!  They were a great couple to work with, and they submitted an awesome set of requests that proved very successful on the dance floor!  I enjoyed having the honor of being a part of their wedding day, and I wish them all the best for decades of health and happiness together.  Mazal Tov!
