One of the many nice things about living in Syracuse is that it’s a substantial city, but you don’t have to go too far to “get away” from the hustle and bustle. Highland Forest is a great example: it’s just a little over 30 minutes from downtown, but despite the commanding, spectacular views, you won’t see even the slightest trace of Syracuse from the Skyline Lodge. It was this beautiful view that served as the backdrop for Amy and Joel’s wedding. (more…)
Well, it happened last year and it happened again this year — I got to a point in the wedding season where things just so busy, my blogging had to take a back seat for awhile. When time gets crunched, preparing for upcoming events takes priority over blogging previous events, but I haven’t forgotten! My first of two wedding receptions in the port city of Oswego this year took me to Alexandria’s Premier Lakeview Weddings, a wonderfully-appointed reception space attached to the Best Western Captain’s Quarters motel. And even after thinking I had all the details covered — after two meetings and many emails — Meghan and Brian, along with their wedding party, managed to surprise everyone in the house with their unique entrances! My latest wedding took me a few miles north of Syracuse, to American Legion Post 787 in Cicero. Leanna and Justin hired me to provide sound for their outdoor ceremony, then music, lighting and emcee duties for the reception, which immediately followed inside the Post’s spacious banquet room. Every wedding season, I love that I seem to get a combination of weddings at venues where I’ve been before, and some at venues which are new to me. While I’ve heard of MKJ Farm in Deansboro, I’ve never been there until Rina and Jeffrey’s wedding last weekend. What a picture-perfect place for both a ceremony and a reception! And we couldn’t have asked for better weather — clear, sunny skies and perfect temperatures. (more…)
My second wedding of the 2014 wedding season took me back to the very first venue where I’ve ever disc jockeyed a wedding reception — Dibble’s Inn in Verona. It was great to come back to Dibble’s to help Kelly and Nicholas celebrate their ceremony and reception. The weather was perfect and the crowd was awesome! (more…)
My 2014 wedding season is underway! Last night was my first reception of the year, at the Stonebridge Golf and Country Club, southeast of Utica. Because Lindsey and John got married a few weeks earlier in Jamaica, this was their reception for their friends and family “back home” here in Central New York. Bethany and Andy’s wedding reception was among the highlights of the 2013 wedding season for me… not to “play favorites” among my customers, but I’ve known Bethany and her family since she, her brothers and I were all in the same elementary school (Go, Stokes Eagles!), so it was an honor to DJ this reception, and it was great to catch-up with friends and neighbors “from back home,” some of whom I literally haven’t seen since high school. Even though I’ve been doing weddings for quite some time now, it’s always neat to add new venues to the list of places where I’ve performed. The Emerson Park Pavilion, along the shore of Owasco Lake in Auburn, provided a historic and classy location for Leanna and Peter Underwood’s wedding ceremony and reception. And although the skies looked questionable, we were very lucky that the weather cooperated just long enough for the ceremony to take place outdoors as planned. (more…)
For the second year in a row, the final weekend of September finds me at one of the beautiful facilities operated by Onondaga County Parks. Last year, it was Pratt’s Falls — this year, I had the pleasure of DJ’ing Ashleigh and Sean’s wedding ceremony and reception at Arrowhead Lodge, part of Oneida Shores Park in Brewerton. (more…)
