While I’ve done a few weddings in Clayton before, Jodi and Dennis’ wedding was my first time at the Antique Boat Museum alongside the Saint Lawrence River. A charming venue, a great crowd and a rather unique “first” for me in 15 years as a wedding DJ — I’ll explain more in this post!
The ceremony was held on a section of lawn with the river in the background, and the weather could not have been more perfect. A sunny day, not too hot. After the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktail hour with an open bar, snacks and lawn games at the museum’s Gaffney Porch, just a few feet away. Dennis and Jodi also arranged to have two of the museum’s boats available for guests to take excursions out on the river, which proved to be a hit.
In this first set of photos, you’ll see how the wireless speakers were set on either side of the ceremony area. While one speaker is sometimes enough for a ceremony, there was a lot of ambient noise from the boats passing by, so I decided to go with two and I think it was a good call. In two of the photos, you can see where the Gaffney Porch is, in relation to the ceremony area.

Not counting private residences, this is venue #92 for me, always happy to add another pin to my venue map! Although I didn’t have time to really tour the Antique Boat Museum, the sections I did see looked really interesting… I’ll have to make another trip up with my family sometime. The staff were awesome to work with and it’s always a bonus when I can literally drive my van right up to the points where I need to load or unload equipment.
So about that unique first… when I arrived to see the boathouse for the first time, I thought it was a great setting for a wedding reception! But I also worried about the chances of someone falling off the edge of one of the docks and into the water. Thankfully there were no such accidents, but at one point, a particularly adventurous guest purposely jumped in for a quick dip, venturing the full length of the dock before circling around to rejoin the party. I couldn’t resist the chance to hop on the mic and comment that, “In 15 years of weddings, this is the first time I’ve ever had anyone swim off the dance floor!”

A great time was had by all, but you don’t have to take my word for it — here’s the 5-star review Dennis and Jodi wrote afterward:
Peter was OUTSTANDING to work with. After our initial meeting with him, we were so impressed at how organized he was and he asked some great questions of things we had not thought of. He really helped us plan the overall event based on asking where certain moments might occur. We checked in with him a few weeks before the wedding to finalize things and provide a play list. There was never a moment I worried about Peter and the logistics. He made it seamless and perfect. He is a true professional and I HIGHLY recommend him for your wedding or event. He played great music and the dance floor was always rocking. Thank you Peter!
Thank you again to Jodi and Dennis for entrusting me with the role of DJ and MC for your special day! I’m so glad you found me, this was a great wedding and I was thrilled to be a part of your celebration. All my best to you both for many years of love and happiness together!
