What a wonderful time it was, helping Katelyn and Ryan celebrate! Another unforgettable celebration in the Persian Terrace ballroom at the historic Marriott Syracuse Downtown. Photos, song choices and more in this blog post!
Admittedly, one of the most difficult parts of this blog is coming up with new things to say about venues where I have DJ’ed weddings many times over the years. But every time I come back to the Marriott Syracuse Downtown, I always find myself — sooner or later — pausing to admire some aspect of the architecture of this historic grand hotel.
For example, the expansive mural over the hotel’s front desk is a sight to behold… and the ballroom itself has some ornate artwork on the walls and ceilings. It’s the kind of thing you don’t see that often in newer buildings. But I degress, let’s dive into this wedding!
You can see some of that detail in the first photo with the uplighting. The couple selected a “warm white” tone that enhanced the natural colors of the ballroom’s columns. And you can also see where the wireless speakers were placed for cocktail hour — strategically placed to cover the space without being a distraction or getting into anybody’s way.

Similar to previous weddings in the Persian Terrace, Katelyn and Ryan’s cocktail hour was in a roped-off section of the hotel’s massive two-story lobby.
At previous weddings, I would set-up a compact sound system in the lobby, just for cocktail hour.
But thanks to improvements in wireless audio technology (this is something much more powerful than Bluetooth), this was the first wedding where I was able to cover the cocktail hour from my main setup inside the ballroom!
I was pleased to find it worked so well, but I did have that second sound system with me just in case. It’s always better to bring more gear and not need it, than to wind up regretting a choice to leave something at home.
