Karina and Eric at Hayloft on the Arch, Vernon Center, NY
Peter is very professional during the entire planning process all the way through the event. He did an amazing job getting people on the dance floor and staying on the dance floor the entire night - overall, he was amazing to work with!

Wedding: Jenna and Jeff at Green Lakes, 9/10/16

With so many great Central New York wedding venues, it's rare that I get to DJ at the same venue twice in one season.  I love visiting new venues, but it's also nice to return to a familiar place.  Jenna and Jeff's wedding reception was my second in 2016 at the Old Administration Building at Fayetteville's Green Lakes State Park.  As far as outdoorsy wedding venues go, a second visit confirms this one remains hard to beat.

2016-0618-m-and-j-03Just as I mentioned in June, the Old Administration Building is a wonderful place for a wedding reception. It's close enough to Green Lake to provide a breathtaking view of the water, but just far enough (and up a hill) from the popular lakeside walking trail that you need not worry about regular park visitors unwittingly meandering into your event.  And aside from a "carry in, carry out" policy, the park is relatively hands-off -- you're free to do whatever you like when it comes to decorations, table layouts, and even choosing your own catering company.

However, for those of you who read my blog seeking ideas and recommendations for your own wedding -- there's one sort-of important tidbit I overlooked in my previous post -- the park's website lists the building's capacity at 70.  For many couples who prefer a smaller, more intimate gathering, this can be a perfect location. You might be able to get creative and squeeze in a few more guests... but if you've got large families and/or lots of friends, and your "dream wedding" vision involves a guest list that reaches into triple digits, you'll want to look elsewhere.

I've been returning to my blogging roots of discussing the "wedding planning" aspects of venues lately, but now let's put the spotlight back on this wedding!  Here are the songs Jenna and Jeff selected for the key moments of their reception.

  • Bride and Groom Entrance: Nirvana / Smells Like Teen Spirit
  • First Dance: Coldplay / Fix You
  • Cake Cutting: Cake / The Distance
  • Last Dance of the Night for Everyone: Coldplay / In My Place

Although an above-average high temperature of 88º and high humidity (with no air conditioning) made the dance floor a hard sell for some guests, there were still many who had fun as the afternoon turned into the evening, especially as the sunset gave way to cooler temperatures.  Here are some photos:

Thanks again to Jenna and Jeff for choosing me as their wedding DJ!  You put together a beautiful event and I enjoyed having the honor of being a part of the celebration.

    1. Sandi, thanks for the comment! I’m sorry I didn’t see it sooner. If memory serves, the catering was handled by Dinosaur Bar-B-Que out of Syracuse. For this wedding, they set-up outside the building, with the food line underneath a huge party tent, and their mobile smoker trailer was just outside the tent.
