In the few years since I’ve moved from Syracuse to Fayetteville, I’ve had Green Lakes State Park practically in my backyard, but never realized its potential as a wedding venue… until now! It’s all thanks to Mackenzie and Jeremy, who held their ceremony and reception at the park’s Old Administration Building.  If you’ve been to the park but aren’t familiar with this building, you’ve probably seen it before; if you’re standing on the beach, it’s the stone building up on the hill to the left. What’s old is new again.  Finally, that saying rings true for the former Hotel Syracuse.  Now the Marriott Syracuse Downtown, it has new life after $70 million in renovations.  This past weekend, more than a thousand attended “Forever Hotel Syracuse: A Historic Gala.”  The fundraiser for the Onondaga Historical Association provided a first look at the fruits of the extensive renovations.  Thanks to some fortunate luck, I had the chance to accompany my wife to the event, camera in hand. You can tell wedding season is getting busy when I start to fall behind on my blogging!  In what seems like just the blink of an eye, it’s already been nearly two weeks since Stephanie and Joshua tied the knot at The Beeches in Rome.  Although I’ve played receptions at The Beeches in the past, this was the first time I’ve worked with a couple who also had their ceremony on-site. After a few weddings followed by some time traveling with family, it was exciting to resume the 2016 wedding season with Clare and James at the Cross Lake Inn and Marina in Cato. We couldn’t have asked for better weather for a reception that featured the bride, groom and the entire wedding party arriving by boat! My latest wedding takes me to a venue where I’ve been an event guest a time or two, but not yet a DJ — the Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel and Conference Center. Sarah and Bernard are an amazing couple who put on a spectacular party for their family and friends! It’s nice when things end on a high note, so I’m pleased to say my 2015 wedding season did just that!  Matt and Justin were great clients who chose an excellent venue and invited an awesome group of guests to their wedding in the Finger Lakes.  And they picked a wonderful date — the autumn colors were at their peak (or pretty darn close), combining with Seneca Lake to provide a spectacular backdrop for the outdoor ceremony. As a former TV news producer, I’m used to adjusting on-the-fly to unexpected changes… but it was quite a shock when bride-to-be Anessa called me a few weeks before her wedding to inform me that Jason had been in a bad accident.  I felt horrible for them, as they weren’t yet sure exactly how this would impact their wedding day plans.  Thankfully, Jason was able to get back on his feet again in time to keep everything on October 17th, albeit with some changes including moving the location by about 95 miles. Even after years in the DJ business, Laura and Daniel’s wedding day managed to present some exciting “firsts” for me.  Although I’ve often DJ’ed a reception/ceremony combo, this was the first time I did them at two separate venues.  There was also an exciting “first” during the ceremony, and as well as the debut of something new for the reception that I’ll be offering for future events.  Keep reading for details and photos!
