Before this summer, I hadn't been to Hamilton in several years -- but Allison and Jason's reception at the Colgate Inn provided me the chance to visit this charming village twice in the same summer (the other time being a June reception at another venue nearby).
Allison and Jason live close to New York City, so our first "planning meeting" was held over the phone -- in fact, I was just confirming my facts for this blog post and realized that phone call was exactly a year ago today! As the wedding date got closer, Allison and Jason were in town attend her reunion at Colgate, so we were able to arrange a face-to-face meeting in-person just before they started their ride back downstate. Other than that one meeting, we were able to take care of all the details via phone and email.
For this reception, Allison and Jason requested no dance floor lighting, as they were satisfied with the existing lighting in the banquet room they selected at the Colgate Inn (just in case you're wondering why you won't see my usual lights in the photos below).
As always, to help provide inspiration for any readers in the midst of planning their own weddings, here are the songs Allison and Jason requested for the major events of their reception:
- Wedding Party Intros: Lumineers / Ho Hey.
- First Dance: Joshua Radin / You’re the First, the Last, My Everything
- Bride / Father Dance: Louis Armstrong / What a Wonderful World
- Groom / Mother Dance: Billy Joel / Just the Way You Are
- Cake Cutting: Cake / Love You Madly
- Last Dances of the Night for Everyone: Barry White / First, Last, Everything; and, Frank Sinatra / New York, New York
Here are some photos from the reception... if you were there, click through to see them on Facebook... feel free to tag yourself and anyone else you recognize!
Thanks again to Allison and Jason for selecting me as your DJ! It was a pleasure. Small world: the family who operates the Colgate Inn also operates two other venues I played earlier this summer -- the week before, I was at The Red Mill Inn in Baldwinsville, and in June, I was at The Sherwood Inn in Skaneateles.
