My latest wedding took me a few miles north of Syracuse, to American Legion Post 787 in Cicero. Leanna and Justin hired me to provide sound for their outdoor ceremony, then music, lighting and emcee duties for the reception, which immediately followed inside the Post’s spacious banquet room. As you’ll see from the photos, the crowd had a great time and the dance floor was filled right through the end of the night!
This was the third “outdoor ceremony / indoor reception” in a row for me, and for all three we had good weather. I guess that means we can call it a streak, right? Admittedly, it was a close call — we did have a couple light drops of rain prior to the ceremony — but since we were under a large pavilion (see the first photo, below), we would have been just fine if the rain had lingered.
I know many of my future brides and grooms are interested in what each couple chooses for their “key” songs, so here’s what Leanna and Justin chose:
I was without my “regular” camera for this wedding, so all these photos were taken with my iPhone. Even with the phone’s flash on, many of the photos came out a little grainier than I would like… but the trade-off is that you can get a better look at the dance floor lighting than I normally get with my regular camera. The regular camera’s flash usually “drowns out” the dance floor lights.

Peter was a great DJ! He is so accommodating and really listens to what the bride and groom want. We shopped around a lot for DJs trying to find the right price and right person and when we talked with him, we liked that he was very professional and very affordable. He got the guests up there dancing and made sure the whole night went smoothly! We couldn’t have asked for a better night or better DJ!!

Prior to the ceremony, I had the pleasure of talking with the groom’s father. He was a DJ himself years ago, back when DJs were truly disc jockeys, playing every single song on vinyl records. Since then, everything moved from records to CDs, and now to computers (but I still bring a dual CD player and several mix CDs to keep things going “just in case” I ever need to switch over to my backup laptop or a backup music hard drive). And once he realized who I was, he told me that he loves listening to 95.3/103.9 The Dinosaur, the station where I’m on-air every Sunday. Since the station is still fairly new, it’s always exciting to find another avid listener!
