Shelia and Terry’s backyard wedding, 8/23/25

It’s been a couple of years since I’ve booked a backyard wedding, but Shelia and Terry’s celebration in Oswego County broke the streak! And while we specialize in putting together “unforgettable celebrations” around here, the weather certainly made this one more unforgettable than most! More details in this blog post.

Shelia and Terry’s wedding took place outside their home in Oswego County. Living on a dead-end street with very few neighbors, guests had plenty of room to park. The buffet line and bar were set up under tents along one side of the driveway (which runs alongside the house), while my assigned location was just across the driveway. Past the end of the driveway were two more big tents with guest seating for the ceremony and dinner.

The layout made an efficient use of the space, with plenty of room for dancing near me, and more room in the back for kids to run around, and there was even a big pile of wood ready for a bonfire later in the evening.

But the guest who stole the show, at least for a little bit, was Mother Nature herself. A massive rainstorm arrived not long before the ceremony was scheduled to begin. This turned out to be one of those bigger storms that took its sweet time to sweep across the region.

After awhile, the rain slowed down enough that Shelia and Terry decided to proceed with the ceremony. But a few minutes later, another downpour! While guests were safe and dry in their tent-covered seats, the couple and officiant were absolutely soaked — but they took it all in stride! If rain on your wedding day really is good luck, Shelia and Terry got enough to last a lifetime!

Thankfully, the rain cleared up not long after the ceremony, which made things considerably easier for dinner and dancing. As I write this nearly two months later, I’m just now pausing to consider how much differently things could have played out if the rain had continued throughout the evening… so I’m glad it stopped when it did!

Big props to all the guests who braved the weather along with Shelia and Terry, and stuck it out for the duration of the “official” reception and even into the afterparty hours which followed. Thank you again, Shelia and Terry for selecting me to be your wedding DJ! Wishing you and your family all the best for many years of love and happiness together!!
